Carry A Gun Safely Tips For Safely C.C.W.

If someone inquires why we carry a gun, the response is fairly straightforward. It usually comes down to something like “for safety,” “for self-defense,” or “to protect myself.” That’s the fundamental answer.

Or you could use a gun to “rob a store.” It’s none of my concern. But even if it is the purpose, you should still know about carrying a gun safely.

Jokes aside, lately, more states are giving the green light to carry concealed firearms without a state-issued permit.

Gun Safely

Because of this, more and more citizens are getting interested in carrying firearms, heading to training facilities to enable themselves to exercise their right to self-defense fully.

But it’s a firearm. Careless usage could be lethal. So, first of all, all should know the basics of carrying a gun. Otherwise, it’s not going to be fun to have to find yourself in a pickle that resulted from a silly mistake/accident.

Tips For Carrying Your Gun Safely & Responsively

Even for many experienced gun owners, gun control is not always on the safety checklist. Here, we’ll discuss how to carry a gun safely and properly. First things first –

1. To Improve Skills, Get Firearm Training

Firearms training is crucial if you want to carry a gun. A gun’s purpose is to be a weapon to carry for offense and defense. The proper training increases the understanding of that and how to control it.

In the case of specialized training, one of the first steps is sharpening your knowledge of weaponry, self-defense, and mitigating control risks.

By practicing handgun fundamentals and gun safety through training and applied knowledge, you can perform proper concealed carry control.

There are sophisticated facilities and training programs that will provide you with the ins and outs of your gun and help you tremendously in understanding and taming the beast.

2. Dress To Conceal Your Gun

Different states have different laws when it comes to firearms. Therefore, it’s better to keep your concealed firearm hidden from view while you go about your day-to-day activities.

Choose your dress smartly to carry your firearm comfortably, confidently, and covertly.

3. Carrying Methods For Rifles And Shotguns

Based on the gun’s type and model, different methods are used to carry them painlessly and effectively.

The Sling Carry Method

Use a rifle sling to carry the rifle. Place the sling on your shoulder. The rifle goes on the back. This way, you won’t fatigue out your hands. Oh! Hold on to the sling to prevent slipping.

The Trail Carry Method

In this method, Put the rifle between your arm and your body. Squish the handle with the arm and hold the upper part by hand. You are holding the rifle in one hand but still not carrying the full weight.

The Shoulder Carry Method

Rest the rifle on the shoulder and balance the firearm by a hand on the grip. Remember to keep your finger off the trigger and on the outside of the trigger guard. It’s a good way to carry your rifle if others are not behind you.

Two-Handed Or Ready Carry

In this method, the gun is held by both hands in front of the body with the barrel up. The trigger finger is outside of the trigger guard. You do this when you are stalking the prey and might need to take action rapidly.

4. Carrying Methods For Pistols And Handguns

Tips For gun Safely

When it comes to carrying handguns, holsters are a must. I mean, you are not going to walk around with the handgun in your hand unless it is specifically needed. Holsters come in different classifications:

  • Level 0 holsters: required no intermediate step before drawing a handgun/firearm.
  • Level I holsters: required a single step before drawing a handgun/firearm.
  • Level II holsters: required two steps before drawing a firearm and so forth.

Most civilians with guns carry a Level I holster, which is an open-top-belt-slide gun holster – either the inside-the-waistband version (I.W.B.) or the outside-the-waistband version (O.W.B.).

You should keep in mind that a holster should always cover the trigger area to ensure safety. Retention is also crucial in mastering control. If your belt is too loose or soft, a quality holster can easily be undermined.

So, carefully choose your holster and a sturdy belt. Whether it be leather or synthetic materials, it has to ensure proper retention.

I am trying not to be too dramatic about it, but I think you should not have any day-to-day need that requires you to carry any of these with you unless you are in a warzone.

And if you are, why are you sitting here reading these? You can carry it however it suits you.

6. Safely Carrying Firearms While Hunting

Hunting is a popular pastime, but it can be dangerous. If you are going to be hunting, you must make sure that you are carrying the appropriate weapons and ammunition for the game.

Solo Hunting:

When hunting, even if you are solo, there are some basic rules you should always follow.

  • Keeping the muzzle pointed in a safe direction and the barrel under control.
  • Keep the safety in the “on” position. When you are ready to shoot, only then change the position of the safety to fire.
  • Always keep your finger outside the trigger guard.
  • Check the status of your firearm often.

In terms of carrying position, there are no rules; carry in a way that does not fatigue you or your hands.

Team Hunting:

When you are hunting in a group, safely carrying firearms can be challenging. You guys have to control your muzzle strictly, and it’s the key factor in your group’s safety.

Don’t forget that you guys may have to adjust or change your carry for the terrain and peace of your group.

  • Walking side by side is one option. Hunters should point their muzzles in different directions.
  • Walking in a single file is another option. The front hunter keeps his muzzle to the side or up, the middle hunter(s) uses cuddle carry, and the rear hunter keeps his muzzle back or to the side.
  • If you are like me and don’t give a s***, walk as pleases you, but please, everyone has to follow shoulder carry or strictly keep the muzzles up.

7. Basic Gun Safety Tips

Gun safety is a topic that often comes up in everyday conversations. It’s important to know the basics of gun safety, especially if you are going to be handling firearms around people.

Basic Gun Safety
  1. Treat every firearm as if it is always loaded.
  2. The weapon’s muzzle should always be pointed in a safe direction.
  3. Read the user’s manual thoroughly. Learn how to use your specific gun, how to open and close its action safely, and how to remove ammunition from the gun and its magazine.
  4. The safety mechanism’s safety isn’t foolproof. So, don’t overly rely on it blindly.
  5. Keeping a good working order is necessary for your firearm. Regular maintenance turns into a more reliable, safer firearm.
  6. At the time of carrying firearms, it develops rust faster than when stored at home. So, always remember to clean your firearms regularly, even if they are never used.
  7. Keep in touch with a gunsmith. Have your gun serviced regularly. A qualified expert gunsmith should do more than basic cleaning. Without proper skill and knowledge, don’t be tempted to disassemble and reassemble your gun.

The National Shooting Sports Foundation (N.S.S.F.) suggests a S.A.F.E. strategy for gun safety which is given below:

S.A.F.E. is the abbreviation for-

  • S for Safety – make sure to secure your firearms when not in use.
  • A for Awareness – always maintain awareness of people around you and prevent unauthorized access to guns.
  • F for Focus – focus on responsibilities as a gun owner.
  • E for Educate – teach yourself and others about gun safety.

The Bottom Line

Be smart, play safe. If you are underage, then don’t try to carry a gun. Instead, follow the rule of carrying a firearm properly. A gun is not for fun, a single accident can cause a huge consequence.

Other than that, You don’t have to worry too much, just be sure to enroll in gun handling and safety training courses and understand the laws in your state. Remember to follow the laws.

It is very important to know how to handle and store a gun safely. This is because you will be holding a weapon that can cause serious injury or death if not handled correctly.
